EXHIBITION ROAD MUSIC DAY is back on 21 June 2009
A midsummer celebration of live international music in Exhibition Road – where the arts and science meet.
Immerse yourself in more than 100 musical performances, interactive workshops and even free language lessons! London’s annual contribution to European Music Day puts Exhibition Road at the heart of the city’s cultural life – and brings the world’s cultural beat to South Kensington.
From classical to folk, world to jazz, fusion to the latest experimental electronica and bands from the UK and beyond, there’s a huge array of genres being showcased. Musical highlights include Ebony Bones, Austria’s Cristoph Dienz, Brit-hop hero Akira the Don, Nzinga Dance and cult keyboardists Pianocircus. Vocal talents include Davy Sicard and Krystle Warren whilst The Fabulous Boogie Boys will entertain the crowds at Imperial College London with their original swing and big band blend.
With big bands and ensembles from Imperial College and the Royal College of Music performing throughout the day, there’s something for everyone.
The festival includes numerous family-focused activities, including Weapons of Sound, True Heart Playback Theatre, Bollywood Dance and Streetwise Opera.
Exhibition Road Project
Supported by the Exhibition Road Cultural Group, the Exhibition Road Project is a multi-million pound scheme to create a modern streetscape that will transform the historic Exhibition Road area into a spectacular outdoor space for all to enjoy. Led by the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, in partnership with the City of Westminster and the Mayor of London, it is due for completion by the end of 2011, well in time for the London 2012 Olympic Games.
